Starting out feelin´good but when we got to the rehearsal hole to get our stuff Johan tells us that he´s got a high fever...Great! Splendid! But the show must crawl on so...Richard points his Volvo south against Skavsta airport and off we go! After endless miles off woods we finally reached Skavsta and got a chance to practice on our waiting skills...
Who´s the best waiter?..or something...
Richard´s too good at waiting...Get on board goddammit!
Soon enough we landed at Stanstead and had to carry our things up stairs down stairs and up stairs and... We got the tour van we´d rented a Ford Focus...yeah that´s the blues for ya...
The wonder of modern cars! All the worries about driving at the wrong side of the road showed to be true... It took some time but we found our hotel and could get to bed. After an English breakfast we hit the road!
As fun as the roads in Sweden! To make a very long story short: We ended up paying a bridge toll three time (yeah the same bridge) and at one point we were driving in a construction area... we drove on small country roads when we weren´t supposed to and we almost crashed into another car and...
Those eyes... Then suddenly we´re in Brighton and after only some small trouble we found:
And it was closed. No one there...So we took the oppurtunity to pose a bit:
It´s us! I promise! Then Mike comes and takes care off us...very necessary at the moment... He takes us to a pharmacy, give us food and a relaxed feeling for the night... When get back to the Free Butt the bass amp is broke and the ordinary sound guy was somewhere else..don´t remember if he was sick or whatever... We also realise that our usually gig is too long ( it has to be quiet at 23.00) so we had to look over the set list a bit...
When we got onstage all we could hear was Johans drumming... it sounded good though...how the gig went? You´ll have to ask the people who were there... They looked happy enough... For me it was of course very nice to meet Jules and Tobias from Mudlow and Not The Same Old Blues Crap/ Punk Rock Blues Rupert (who came down from London!) Do yourself a favour and check out Lord Vagrants site www.lordvagrant.com they rock! Joe? (me and names) the singer of The Guilliotines made a solo gig that was really cool there´s some pic`s of him at the Lord Vagrant site...Check èm out!
Some blurry Free Butt pic´s but that´s the way it felt to... After breakfast:
Mike takes us to the Brighton beach... why? Quadrophenia of course! Don´t you forget we were doing the tourist thing! Lars started to sing the old Swedish song "Gamla Nordsjön" (the old northern sea) and of course we had to do some more posing... Thanks to Mike for taking the pic...
Now everyone except me (pEr) is feeling sick . Johan feels a bit better though but not good. So let´s go to Leicester! And wait some more...
I`m just acting silly. Lars is falling asleep for real... I looked away for awhile and then Tristram and the other bands is there and we do a sound check that makes us feel very safe. The sound guys name was Sam! Great guy! Great sound! Thanks a lot! After the sound check the guys gotta go to the hotel to lie down a bit. Hey, like a real blues band! So I go with them to nurse them and whisper into their ears how great they are and how good they´re gonna play in spite of fever, coughs and hallucinations... And they did!
We just got up and did a great gig! Funky Punky Fun!
Soon asleep...
Lars guitars...
Slap that porkboys head... Thanks to Tristram for the Snake Drive live pic´s! More of them att the Snake Drive web site! Go to the archive! Richard (who felt a bit better after the gig) stayed with me at the Snake Drive to listen to the Chucklevision DJ set and it was of course great. Talked to Tristram and said we wished we could have something like this at home but there´s only about ten thousand people in our town so... We missed Stone Cat Blues because of the other members illness but you should go to their site and listen to them! Young and promising band!
It was tourist time again so let´s go to London! We parked close to a synagogue in something called Brent Cross (reminded me a bit of Ö-vik for some reason)
and then walked to the subway. Got robbed on two pounds of a machine!
How do you get to the centre of London?
The proof... Oxford street is the place to be!... maybe?
Country folks... No fish and chips though to my great disapointment....some vegetarian thai-food had to do...
Then home to old sweden were we had some great pizza before we looked at a studio which we then hoped we could use for the next record but it won´t work unfortunately...we´re too broke after this...but it was worth it! Hope to be back in the UK sometime next spring! See you then!
